Local anesthetic cardiac toxicity can present as late-onset hypotension, bradycardia, and asystole.

چکیده
We applaud Dr. Polley and Dr. Santos [1] for reminding us in their recent editorial of the potential risks of anesthetic toxicity in peripheral nerve block and of the need to employ standard safety methods to reduce the risk of cardiac toxicity in all forms of regional anesthesia. However, we believe their discussion missed another, equally important, lesson to be learned from these interesting case reports of ropivacaine-induced cardiac arrest.

The present study. In this issue of the Journal (1) investigators from the University of Minnesota report the third in a series of studies focusing on the phenomenon of “neurally mediated snycope.” In the present study, six patients (Group I) who presented with “cardiovascular collapse apparently associated with cardiac asystole” underwent head-up tilt testing before and during infusion of isop...
متن کاملReversal of Cardiovascular Toxicity in Severe Organophosphate Poisoning with 20% Intralipid Emulsion Therapy: Case Report and Review of Literature
Background: Cardiac toxicity is one of the life-threatening effects of severe organophosphate (OP) poisoning. We presented a patient with severe OP poisoning, in cardiovascular shock poorly responsive to conventional treatments, who could be resuscitated successfully with intravenous lipid emulsion (ILE) therapy. Case report: A 26-year-old female was admitted to our emergency department who had...

Background: Today Anesthesiologists occasionally face with bradycardia during gastric surgery and recognized this phenomenon as a vagal reflex. The objective of this study is finding of anesthesia risk factors for bradycardia and prevention of its hazardous complications during gastric surgeries. Methods: In this retrospective study, fifty patients undergoing laparatomy and gastric surgery in ...

Background and purpose: Lidocaine is an intermediate acting local anesthetic agents used very much in epidural anesthesia and has less risk of cardiac or CNS problems compared with bupivacaine. This study evaluated the duration of motor and sensory block of epidural anesthesia with lidocaine alone, lidocoine plus epinephrine and lidocaine plus fentanyl. متن کاملVagus nerve stimulation and late-onset bradycardia and asystole: Case report
Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) therapy is approved in the United States by the FDA in 1997 for medically refractory partial epilepsy in patients of ages 12 years and above. The most common stimulation-associated side effects are voice alteration, hoarseness, throat and neck pain, headache, cough, and dyspnea. Four patients with VNS had late-onset bradycardia and asystole, attributed to VNS stimu...
